Friends That Bless — Lessons from King David.  We all have acquaintances. We all have friends. But are we surrounded by — and becoming — friends who bless? King David was a complex man. A giant slayer. A brilliant leader. Yet also flawed — an adulterer and a murderer. Still, Scripture calls him “a man after God’s own heart.” (Acts 13:22) Why? Part of the answer is this: David had friendships that shaped, strengthened, and sustained him. Let’s look at what it means to be friends who bless. 1. Friends Who Bless Are Loyal — Even When It Costs 1 Samuel 20 Jonathan stood by David even when it put his own relationship with his father, King Saul, at risk. True friendship isn’t convenient — it’s committed. Do you have a Jonathan in your life? More importantly… are you a Jonathan? 2. Friends Who Bless Are Willing to Step Down So Others Can Step Up 1 Samuel 23 Jonathan knew David would be king — and chose humility over position. Real friends don’t compete. They celebrate, support, and make space for God’s calling in your life. 3. Friends Who Bless See God at Work — Even When You Can’t 1 Samuel 23:16 When David was discouraged and on the run, Jonathan helped him find strength in God. Sometimes you need someone who can remind you of who you are when you forget. Final Thought: The right friendships don’t just make life better — they draw you closer to God. Be intentional. Choose wisely. And become the kind of friend who blesses.
